Manly Art Gallery and Museum
Initially trained in fine art, Helen Read began her pioneering journey with Aboriginal art while working as a midwife and pilot for the Pintupi Homelands Health Service in the Gibson Desert. Living in Walungurru (Kintore, NT) in 1985 was the beginning of a deep appreciation for Australia’s First Nation art and cultures.
A Thousand Journeys is a visual diary from a period when many of the artists were little known. MAG&M is open Tuesday – Sunday, 10am – 5pm excluding public holidays. The exhibition opening is on Friday 25 May from 6 – 8pm with a special talk on Sunday 27 May from 3 – 4pm.
