Caring for country, sharing the story and sharing the land.

Strong Yaegl musician Michael Birk is leading the annual music event,

Singing Up Country at St Anthony in the Fields in Terrey Hills on the

23rd of May 2021 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Singing Up Country is a music festival showcasing Aboriginal musicians, their culture, music and community spirit in one great gathering. The festival explores themes of belonging and caring for Country. It brings together communities through the work of the Catholic Parish of Frenchs Forest and the spirituality of their Social Justice Group. It communicates a community owned pride and Identity, supporting a stance that Australian land will always be Aboriginal and that we have to care for it.

It promotes the ethos: “Caring for Country, sharing the story and sharing the land”.

Showcasing talent of Sydney’s Aboriginal music scene, there will be music with grooves of reggae to jazz and rock-n-roll / indie rock.

Bands featured in this year’s line-up are:

The Stiff Gins, Green Hand Band, Black Turtles and Uncle Johnny Nicol together with Michael Birk and the Recognisers who will get you moving and singing along.

The inaugural festival was launched in 2015 has grown year after year, and after 2020 we are looking forward to making an even bigger community splash with more bands and more music! People haven’t forgotten about Singing Up Country – and after COVID-19, we want to come back stronger than before.
